Entering country number 4 on our trip around The Balkans: Montenegro. Getting into Podgorica from Shkoder is quite easy on small minibuses crossing the border, and we arrived in Podgorica with an afternoon to try and explore all the highlights. You really don’t need more than a few hours to see the sights of the city here, but it has a lovely atmosphere to relax in.

5 Top Things to Do in Podgorica

  • Niesgov Park:
Niesgov Park was lovely for a wander; and this underlines the chilled out vibe in Podgorica. Podgorica is a lovely place to spend a day or two in and it just gives you a bit of a break from the rush of usual everyday travel.
  • Millenium Bridge.
One of the landmarks in Podgorica – and a must see if you’re heading towards the river.
  • Independence Square:
This is a great one to do for history and culture as many of the official buildings and statues are near here. Podgorica is a very small city so it’s a good activity to get ticked off, and won’t take you too long either.

  • Swimming in the River:
There were so many locals swimming in the river that we decided we had to! I would recommend this as an activity you can do for a while. River swimming is so fun, so chilled out and the atmosphere in Podgorica was amazing for this.
  • Wandering the Streets:
Especially in search of food, a little wander down the streets is always welcome. As with any city, my advice to best explore the side streets is simply to get lost and then find yourself again

Accomodation:

The accommodation, Hostel Q , was one of the best accommodations we stayed in on the entire trip – with amazing facilities and places to socialise. It was also a bit outside of the city so allowed you an extra bit of peace and quiet in nature. (And as with all of our accommodation on this trip – free cancellation)
